Advocating for Small Businesses and Families Since 1988
Gene understands business through his education, experience, and the “school of hard knocks”. As an undergraduate student at Boston University, he studied business administration with a concentration in finance. After graduation, Gene began his professional career as an entrepreneur working for a small, tax-oriented investment firm that owned a gold mining operation in California. He managed the operation for two years and left to start his first small business, Boyle Exploration and Development, a gold-mining operation in the Northern California foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Gene definitely got his hands dirty as the company excavated 750 tons of earth per day for a mere 3-6 ounces of gold. Due to falling gold prices and undercapitalization, he shut down the mining operation and left for the hallowed halls of law school at the University of Detroit Mercy.
In law school, Gene served on the student bar association and was nominated as the second-year class president. As a student, he was also afforded the opportunity to study international law in London, England. After graduation and passing the Michigan and Florida bar examinations, Gene was admitted to practice in each state. He began his legal career as a judicial law clerk for Chief Justice Dorothy Comstock Riley of the Michigan Supreme Court. After leaving that position, Gene entered private practice at one of Michigan's oldest and largest law firms, Butzel Long. He served the firm as an associate, partner, and shareholder for 17 years. Prior to founding EH Boyle, PC, Gene was a principal of the Boyle Burdett firm with his former colleague from Butzel Long. He has handled business litigation, estate litigation, first amendment litigation, and arbitration disputes in Michigan, New York, Chicago, and Florida.
Outside of his law practice, Gene is an active member of the community. He has served as the past president of the Young Lawyer's Section of the Michigan State Bar and Detroit Bar of Association. Gene has also served on a number of judicial election committees. Outside of the legal profession, Gene regularly volunteers at St. Paul Catholic Church and School as a lector, RCIA sponsor, and cafeteria/playground volunteer. In his free time, he enjoys golf, travel, and snow skiing, preferably with his beautiful, young daughter.
"Discourage litigation. Persuade your neighbors to compromise whenever you can. As a peacemaker, the lawyer has superior opportunity of being a good man. There will still be business enough".
- Abraham Lincoln
